Night changes the cost of exploring
Sanity is part of planning a night run. Community guides describe nighttime drain and recovery options including campfires and sanity potions. More monster activity can make a night productive, but it also adds pressure while you are navigating.
A useful rule is to decide where the trip ends before you begin. If your purpose is to reach a landmark, reach it and secure the route. If your purpose is a night boss, avoid using the first half of the window to explore unrelated branches.
Build the route around recovery
- Learn a short path while visibility and conditions are manageable.
- Notice campfires and remember how to return to them.
- Keep recovery supplies available before entering a longer route.
- Turn back while you can still navigate comfortably.
Do not assume every recovery source has the same effect or rate. Watch the in-game sanity indicator after using an item or reaching a recovery point.
When a run starts going wrong
Low sanity plus an unfamiliar junction is a reason to simplify the trip. Stop chasing distant drops, retrace the route you know and use the resources you brought.
If an encounter behaves unlike a recent guide, check current game announcements. Release-period fixes can change sanity behavior; older boss footage is useful for movement patterns but may show a bug that has already been addressed.
