The gem-to-weapon loop
Gems feed The Veil’s enchanting system. Beginner guides describe bringing a suitable gem to the blacksmith and paying silver to apply an additional weapon effect.
Compare the effect with the weapon you intend to use. Community descriptions distinguish gem effects from weapon tomes, so read the current interaction before spending either item.
Keep a separate travel gem
A gem also appears in the Shimmering Sanctum interaction that sends you to Sky Island. If Sky Sentinel is your next objective, reserve a gem for that journey before consuming your supply at the blacksmith.
The same planning applies to silver. Compare the blacksmith’s quoted price with the money you have set aside for a class or quest. This avoids completing one upgrade and immediately stalling the next objective.
Compare effects by what your weapon does
- Casting: read whether the effect applies to casts, cooldowns or another part of the attack.
- Summoning: distinguish bonuses to your character from bonuses to summons.
- Close combat: consider recovery and movement as well as damage.
Names and descriptions in the current blacksmith interface are the best place to check what you are buying. A universal best-enchant ranking would hide these differences.
After enchanting
Read the effect description, equip your intended weapon, and use it in a familiar encounter before taking it into a new boss fight. Keep a useful backup and lock equipment you want to protect during inventory cleanup.
If a main quest asks for an enchant, complete its dialogue after the upgrade. Buying a gem and actually enchanting the weapon are different steps.
